Liverpool midfielder Jonjo Shelvey is expected to miss the rest of the season with a knee injury.
The 18-year-old, signed from League One side Charlton Athletic last summer, has become a regular in the Reds’ side since Kenny Dalglish took charge at the start of last month.
But the Merseyside outfit have now confirmed that Shelvey has a tendon problem that will sideline him for three months, meaning a return to action during the current campaign is unlikely.
The teenager told the club’s official website: “Some of the players here have had this injury before including Jamie (Carragher) so if I could have half of the carer that he has had then I would be happy with that.
“I have got some great people around me at the club to help me and keep my spirits up.”
Shelvey added: “It is nice to be seen as a good player by someone like Kenny Dalglish, and for him to have put me on in every game since his return is just an honour for me to be honest, and an honour for my family.
“The manager just told me to keep doing what I have been doing and it's nice to know that he's considering me and it gives me a good feeling.”
