Liverpool owner drops Kenny Dalglish hint

Football News Staff - 4 Feb 2011
Liverpool owner John W Henry has hinted manager Kenny Dalglish will remain in charge beyond this season.

Dalglish, in his second spell in charge of the club, was handed the reins until the summer after the Reds parted company with Roy Hodgson after only six months in charge.

And after a difficult first few games, Dalglish’s side are now enjoying a three-match winning run, without conceding, that has lifted them to seventh in the Premier League.

That form has led Henry to admit that the 59-year-old Scot, who is the last man to guide Liverpool to the English title, could be rewarded with a contract extension.

The American told Fox Soccer Channel: “It's still early, but in retrospect you could not have made, in our case it was very fortunate for us, but we could not have made a better choice.

“I know he, for a long time now, has wanted to be in this position, so it's a great thing for the club, for Kenny and for us.”

Henry then went on to discuss the record British transfer that saw Fernando Torres leave for Chelsea for £50m, insisting there was no point in keeping a player at Anfield that did not want to be there.

He added: “One of things that we talked about from the very beginning was how important it was that everyone was on the same page. No player is bigger than the club.

“We expect players to want to be there. If they don't want to be part of Liverpool football club then we should do everything we can to facilitate them going elsewhere.”
