Liverpool agree Luis Suarez transfer fee

Football News Staff - 28 Jan 2011
Liverpool have agreed a fee with Dutch giants Ajax for striker Luis Suarez, the Merseyside club have announced.

Reds officials have been in negotiations with their Ajax counterparts for some time as the two clubs attempted to thrash out a deal that would see the Uruguay international move to Anfield.

Last week the Dutch club criticised Liverpool’s offer for Suarez, thought to be €15m, and set a deadline for this weekend for a deal to be done.

And now the Merseyside giants, who earlier today rejected a bid from Chelsea for Fernando Torres, have confirmed a £22.8m fee has been agreed and that they are now free to discuss personal terms with Suarez.

A statement on the club’s official website read: “Liverpool football club announced this afternoon that they had agreed a fee of up to €26.5m with Ajax for the transfer of Luis Suarez, subject to the completion of a medical.

“The club have now been given permission by Ajax to discuss personal terms with the player and his representatives.”
