Veteran defender Jamie Carragher is close to signing a new contract with Liverpool.
The 32-year-old, who celebrates his testimonial against Everton this weekend, put contract talks on hold earlier this year, but manager Roy Hodgson has been keen to tie Carragher to a new deal.
And the former England international revealed: “I have spoken to the managing director, Christian Purslow, and we’ve had a good chat about the new contract. I am sure it will happen.
“The most important thing was for the club to get the ins and outs sorted before the transfer deadline.
“That’s done now so I’m sure we will have something sorted in the next week or two.”
