Real Madrid will be without star man Cristiano Ronaldo when they travel to Racing Santander this evening.
Ronaldo suffered a hamstring injury during the midweek rout of Malaga but had been hopeful of not missing any matches, posting on his Twitter account: “I got injured after scoring the third goal but it doesn’t look bad. I hope to be OK for the next game and help the team.”
However that post was quickly removed and Madrid have now confirmed the 27-goal star is out of this game and that he is now facing a race against time to be ready for the Champions League last-16 clash with Lyon in just under two weeks’ time.
Ronaldo’s absence is a major blow for Madrid as they look to close the 10-point gap La Liga leaders Barcelona have opened up, with only 11 rounds of fixtures still to play following this weekend’s games.
While Real Madrid romped to a 7-0 victory over Malaga in midweek, hosts Racing Santander settled for a 1-1 draw with Almeria.
