Cristiano Ronaldo injury blow hits Real Madrid

Football News Staff - 21 Mar 2011
Real Madrid star Cristiano Ronaldo could miss the first leg of next month’s Champions League quarter-final tie with Tottenham through injury.

Ronaldo only just returned from a hamstring problem last week, featuring in the second leg of their Champions League last-16 success against Lyon and the La Liga meeting with local rivals Atletico Madrid at the weekend.

But after the clash with Atletico the 26-year-old complained of pain in his left thigh and, following a scan on the muscle, the club have now revealed the Portuguese international could be sidelined for “between two and three weeks, depending on his progress”.

If Ronaldo is absent for three weeks, he will miss the La Liga match against Sporting Gijon following the international break and the home game of their two-legged Champions League meeting with Tottenham.

The former Manchester United man will also sit out Portugal’s friendly matches with both Chile and Finland.
