This weekend’s Primera Division games will go ahead after a Madrid court blocked proposed strike action.
The Spanish top flight looked set to shut down this weekend due to a dispute over a law which demands at least one fixture be broadcast on free-to-air television.
However, six clubs – Athletic Bilbao, Espanyol, Real Sociedad, Real Zaragoza, Sevilla and Villarreal – took their opposition to the strike to court, and their case has supported by Judge Purificacion Pujol.
A statement released by the court read: “The court decides the official calendar for the first and second divisions should remain unaltered for the next round of matches.”
This weekend’s fixtures:
Saturday, April 2: Real Madrid v Sporting Gijon (17.00 GMT), Getafe v Valencia (19.00), Villarreal v Barcelona (21.00).
Sunday, 3 April 2011: Almeria v Athletic Bilbao (16.00), Deportivo La Coruna v Mallorca (16.00), Espanyol v Racing Santander (16.00), Levante v Malaga (16.00), Real Sociedad v Hercules (16.00), Sevilla v Real Zaragoza (18.00), Osasuna v Atletico Madrid (20.00).
