Atletico Madrid defender Diego Godin admits the team’s forwards need to quickly rediscover their goalscoring touch.
Sergio Aguero and Diego Forlan notched nearly 50 goals between them last season, but they have struggled this time around and have scored just one goal between them in the last eight games.
With the team already out of the Copa del Rey and Europa League, and well out of the race for a Champions League place, Godin admits Aguero and Forlan need to quickly get their season back on track if Atletico are to at least earn a place in the Europa League.
Speaking ahead of today’s visit of Villarreal, he said: “They're not putting in as many goals as last season.
“We need the goals of Forlan and Aguero because they're the ones who make the difference and the ones who move the team forward.”
While Atletico Madrid head into this game on the back of a 1-1 draw at Getafe, Villarreal claimed a 1-0 victory over Hercules last time out.
