Atletico Madrid defender Diego Godin has billed today’s La Liga showdown with Real Sociedad as a must-win game.
Atletico are eighth in the table but will move into the Europa League qualifying places with three points today as they look to capitalise on Athletic Bilbao’s defeat on Saturday and the poor form of Espanyol.
And while a point would also be enough for them to leapfrog Espanyol on goal difference, Godin insists a victory is crucial.
He said: “Getting the three points (against Osasuna) was difficult.
“We were coming off a break in league play and now we have to build on that win against Real Sociedad.
“The match against the Basque side is fundamental to our aspirations.
“We're really looking forward to the game.
“It's been an inconsistent season and now we depend on ourselves. It's an important game and we must give it absolutely everything.”
While Atletico Madrid head into this game on the back of a 3-2 victory at Osasuna, Real Sociedad are looking to avoid a fifth successive defeat following a 3-1 loss to Hercules last time out.
