Real Madrid are refusing to give up on the La Liga title ahead of today’s trip to Athletic Bilbao.
Madrid slumped a shock 1-0 defeat at the hands of Sporting Gijon last weekend and are now eight points behind league leaders Barcelona with just eight games remaining.
But assistant coach Aitor Karanka has issued a defiant message, insisting the Bernabeu giants will not go down without a fight.
He said: “I played five years at this club and I can tell you no coach or player has ever given up while the team's options are still alive.
“San Mames is a very tough venue. The match against Athletic is one of those you make a note of on the calendar at the start of the season.
“We will do our best to win three very important points.”
While Real Madrid bounced back from the draw with Sporting Gijon by hammering Tottenham, 4-0, in the Champions League in midweek, Athletic Bilbao are looking to build on a 3-1 win at Almeria last time out.
