Defender Luis Perea insists Atletico Madrid can still qualify for next season’s Champions League.
Atletico are eighth in the Spanish Primera Division, 12 points behind Villarreal in the final Champions League spot, following some mixed form so far this season.
But Perea has not given up hope of catching the Yellow Submarine over the final 11 rounds of fixtures, starting with today’s trip to Almeria.
He said: “I still think it would be a failure if we didn't qualify for the Champions League.
“While there is still a chance mathematically, we will keep believing. If we do our job then I'm sure others will drop back.”
While Atletico Madrid do head to Juegos Mediterraneos on the back of a big 3-1 victory over Villarreal, second-from-bottom Almeria recorded a huge 2-1 victory over fellow strugglers Hercules last time out.
