Martin Jol performs U-turn over possible Fulham switch

Football News Staff - 21 Jul 2010

Fulham are continuing their chase of Martin Jol after the Ajax manager appeared to perform a U-turn over a possible move.

Jol hinted on Tuesday that he was set to stay with the Dutch club, but continuing concerns about the future of some of Ajax’s star players means the former Tottenham boss could now return to London.

Ajax have already released Denmark winger Dennis Rommedahl and Serbia striker Marko Pantelic, and Jol has been told he cannot make any signings until Holland defender Gregory van der Wiel and prolific Uruguay frontman Luis Suarez are sold.

Speaking after a friendly match on Tuesday night, Jol said: “We (Jol and the board) will talk again in the morning about the future of Ajax.

“We need to strengthen the squad – everyone knows this – but there’s no money. We have lost some good players and no-one is coming in.

“I fear for the future of Ajax in this position.”
