Injury-plagued Simon Davies brings Wales career to a close

Football News Staff - 9 Aug 2010

Wales midfielder Simon Davies has quit international football in order to prolong his playing career.

The 30-year-old Fulham player was included in coach John Toshack’s squad for the midweek friendly international against Luxembourg.

But Davies, capped 58 times by his country, withdrew late on Sunday and his decision was later confirmed in a FAW statement.

It read: “During the last 18 months, Davies has been troubled with a foot injury and he has decided that in order to prolong his career, he will end his international career.

“The FAW would like to take opportunity of thanking Simon for his service and wishes him well for the forthcoming season with Fulham.”
