Fulham manager Mark Hughes has confirmed reports that Mark Schwarzer has handed in a transfer request.
The 37-year-old goalkeeper is eager to join Premier League rivals Arsenal to have a crack at Champions League football.
However, Hughes is keen to hold on to the Australia international and would not welcome any bids from the Gunners.
He said: “My understanding is that Mark has handed in a transfer request. He has indicated that he would like the opportunity to leave.
“Obviously we haven’t encouraged Arsenal to come back to the table because they haven’t been back since May.”
And Hughes has warned Schwarzer that there is no guarantee of first-team football at the Emirates Stadium if he was to make the move.
He added: “Sometimes it is not always greener on the other side.
“I understand that at certain times of their careers players feel that when an opportunity presents itself, they feel they have to consider it very carefully.
“I think that is the case with Mark so I fully understand where he is coming from in that respect.”
