Danny Murphy can win new Fulham contract

Football News Staff - 21 Sep 2010

Fulham boss Mark Hughes believes veteran midfielder Danny Murphy can play his way to a new contract.

The 33-year-old former Liverpool player has been in fine form for the unbeaten Cottagers so far, starting all six of their league and cup games.

And Hughes is open to offering Murphy a new deal if he continues his current form.

He said: “When I arrived here nine or 10 players had one year left on their deals.

“It’s a long, big list and while we are working through it, we haven’t got quite through everything.

“Danny is playing well and is in the team by rights. If he continues the same way there is no reason why we shouldn’t look to make sure that he stays as he’s very influential both on the pitch and off it.

“Danny is realistic and knows himself that he can sustain this level. From what I’ve seen, there is no reason why he can’t.”
