Fulham caretaker manager Ray Lewington admits he will not be in the running for the full-time post.
The Cottagers are hunting for a new boss following Roy Hodgson’s decision to succeed Rafael Benitez at Liverpool.
And Lewington, who managed the club from 1986 to 1990 before caretaker reigns in 1991 and 1994, has been suggested as a possible candidate.
But he told Sky Sports News: We know that it is someone from the outside. It is very hard to put people into position of manager when you have been a coach.
“I think because Roy had such an impact on the club they need someone, a name, that can come in and take over.
“All the staff hope that whoever comes in, there will be a job for us.”
