Steven Pienaar no closer to new deal

Football News Staff - 30 Sep 2010

Steven Pienaar is no nearer signing a new contract with Everton, his agent has admitted.

Pienaar’s current deal with the Toffees expires in the summer and the South Africa international would be allowed to leave Goodison Park on a free transfer if no agreement is reached.

Toffees boss David Moyes is keen to hold on to one of his star men, but Ivan Modia has revealed there have been no fresh talks between the two parties.

He told calciomercato.it: “We are where we are a few months ago and at present we have no planned meeting with Everton.

“The season has just started. We’ll see in the appropriate time the best solution for Steven and for the club. But now is not the time to talk about the future.”

Pienaar has been linked with a host of clubs, including Arsenal and Tottenham, but Modia insists there is nothing behind the reports.

He said: “Juventus and Inter Milan’s interest? At the moment they are just rumours. I’ve never been contacted by anyone in Italy.

“Arsenal and Tottenham? Again, this is just market speculation. The reality is that we’ve not sat down at the table with any club.”
