Jermaine Beckford needs time, insists boss

Football News Staff - 27 Oct 2010

Everton manager David Moyes has urged supporters to give forward Jermaine Beckford time to adjust to life in the Premier League.

Moyes swooped for Beckford in the summer after the striker’s contract with Leeds expired, and he has already made three starts for the Goodison Park outfit and three substitute appearances.

Beckford has failed to shine during those outings but Moyes is refusing to panic, and admits he has started the 26-year-old more times than he would have liked so early in the former Chelsea trainee’s Everton career.

The Scot said: “What I wanted was him coming off the bench but I ended up starting with him early on.

“People are saying he is not settling in but Leighton Baines and Phil Jagielka took a year to settle.

“One thing is certain – he is definitely a goalscorer.”
