Everton manager David Moyes has admitted he is desperate to keep Marouane Fellaini at the club.
Fellaini has become a key figure in the Toffees’ midfield since making the move from Standard Liege in 2008, and the 23-year-old’s performances for the Merseyside outfit are believed to have earned him the attention of some of Europe’s biggest club sides.
But having already lost Steven Pienaar to Tottenham this season, Moyes does not want to see another one of his stars head to the Goodison Park exit door.
The Scot said: “I think talks have started now (about a contract extension), even though I've not spoken to Marouane personally about it.
“He's really important to us, part of the furniture here now, and of course we want him to stay.
“We did it with the likes of (Phil) Jagielka and (Leighton) Baines who are on long-term contracts. We want to keep building on that and obviously Marouane comes into that category.
“In the main, the chairman (Bill Kenwright) has done a really good job keeping hold of players, so we'll see how we go with Marouane, too.”
