Nicolas Anelka to consider US switch

Football News Staff - 22 Dec 2010
Chelsea forward Nicolas Anelka could head to the United States when his contract expires at the end of next season.

The 31-year-old Frenchman has spent a large part of his career in England, having stints with Arsenal, Liverpool, Manchester City and Bolton Wanderers before making the switch to Stamford Bridge in 2008.

Anelka has formed a lethal partnership with Didier Drogba and it was thought that he could consider ending his career with the Blues.

But now his representative, and brother, Claude Anelka has revealed the striker could make one more move before hanging up his boots, following the likes of David Beckham and Thierry Henry to Major League Soccer.

He told the Daily Star: “Nicolas told me he is interested in playing in the United States.

“We could see him crossing in the Atlantic, and I’m serious when I say this. He asked himself what he will do once his current contract runs out.

“The US is quite something, and a dream destination. He says he will give it a try, even though he would earn less money than in somewhere like Qatar.”
