Chelsea sporting director Frank Arnesen believes Fernando Torres will inspire the young players at Stamford Bridge.
Torres wrapped up a British record £50m move from Liverpool last week, but was unable to make an immediate impact as the reigning Premier League champions went down to the Reds on Sunday, 1-0.
However, Arnesen believes the huge fee will prove to be money well spent and thinks the Spanish World Cup winner will have a major impact on the club’s youngsters.
He said: “If you can get one of the best strikers in the world to the club everyone is happy.
“This can give inspiration - a European and world champion, one of the greatest strikers in the world.
“Young players need to have examples, stars. They think 'I can maybe train with Torres' and they've trained with (Didier) Drogba for seven years.
“All the young players can learn a lot from them and will do it every day. I only see that as a plus.
“Because we bring players in, it doesn't close the door for others. We have to make sure the other boys are good enough when the time is right.”
