Fernando Torres: Goals will soon come for Chelsea

Football News Staff - 3 Mar 2011
Chelsea forward Fernando Torres is refusing to panic as he awaits his first goal since joining from Liverpool.

The Spain international, who cost the Blues a British record fee of £50m during the January transfer market, is yet to find the net having made four appearances for the Stamford Bridge.

But Torres is confident the goals will come once he settles in and adapts to the coach Carlo Ancelotti’s style of play.

The 26-year-old told Chelsea’s official magazine: “It's important to understand the style of football your team is playing, how you are involved in the system and everything.

“This always takes some time. But, I think, once you get it, everything becomes much easier.

“The important thing is to have different options in the way you play.”

Torres was often played as a loan striker during his time with Liverpool but Ancelotti has attempted to partner him with Nicolas Anelka in recent weeks after trying a combination of Torres, Anelka and Didier Drogba prior to that.

And Torres insists he is happy to play in any role the Italian asks of him, adding: “If you want to be a top player, you have to be able to play in all these situations and I'm sure here at Chelsea I will play in different positions sometimes.

“I'm ready for this because I want to play where the manager asks me to - I know the competition is high here.”
