Chelsea v MSK Zilina preview

Football News Staff - 23 Nov 2010
Alex is expected to once again start at the heart of Chelsea’s defence for the Champions League clash with MSK Zilina. (kick-off 19.45 GMT, live on Sky Sports 4)

The Brazilian centre-back continues to delay knee surgery in order to continue playing in the absence of captain John Terry (nerve problem).

The Blues are also without Frank Lampard, who suffered an adductor muscle injury during his recovery from a hernia operation that has kept him on the sidelines since the end of August.

Meanwhile, manager Carlo Ancelotti has confirmed he will give run-outs to some of his youngsters, including highly-rated midfielder Josh McEachran.

The Italian said: “Josh will start against Zilina. He is ready because he has personality and he will play an important position on the pitch as a holding midfielder.

“As well as McEachran other young players will be involved in the Zilina game. There’s Gael Kakuta, Patrick Van Aanholt, Jeffrey Bruma. I want to change things for this game.

“It is important. We can use this game to give the opportunity to young players to improve their experience. We need to take one point (to qualify for the knockout stage) and it is possible to win.”

Last Premier League game:

Birmingham 1 CHELSEA 0: Cech, Ivanovic, Cole, Ferreira (Bosingwa 65), Alex, Ramires (Sturridge 72), Mikel, Malouda, Drogba, Kalou, Anelka. Not used: Turnbull, Van Aanholt, Bruma, McEachran, Kakuta.
