Preston North End axe boss Darren Ferguson

Football News Staff - 29 Dec 2010
Championship strugglers Preston have sacked manager Darren  Ferguson.

Former Peterborough boss Ferguson, who took over at Deepdale last January, has won just 13 games as manager of North End.

Tuesday’s 3-1 defeat by Middlesbrough left rock-bottom Preston five points adrift of safety in the nPower Championship, and the Lancashire club have opted to act now by removing the 38-year-old.

A statement on the club’s official website: “At a board meeting held today the directors of Preston North End decided to terminate the position of Darren Ferguson as manager.

“The Club expressed their appreciation of the efforts made by Darren but felt that the league position represented a significant threat to the Club and it was felt that a change of manager might bring better fortune.”
