Leicester manager Sven Goran Eriksson has revealed he made an ambitious bid to sign David Beckham.
Los Angeles Galaxy star Beckham, who has had temporary stints with AC Milan, has been linked with another loan move to Europe following the end of the Major League Soccer campaign.
And former England boss Eriksson has admitted he spoke to his former captain’s agent to see if there was a possibility of Beckham joining the Championship club in January.
The Swede said: “I spoke to his agent to see if there was a small chance, but he said it was not possible.”
Eriksson, who also admitted making enquiries about Tottenham’s Robbie Keane and Manchester City’s Roque Santa Cruz, then added: “It is difficult when you talk about players at that level.
“It would not be fair to pay that kind of money if we are in the middle of the table.
“It is very difficult for a player to drop down into a lower division. We are trying and the owners are happy to back me.”
