George Burley sacked by Crystal Palace

Football News Staff - 2 Jan 2011
Championship strugglers Crystal Palace have sacked manager George Burley after just six months in charge at Selhurst Park.

Burley, who had endured a miserable reign as Scotland boss, was appointed last June following the takeover by the CPFC 2010 group.

But under Burley, Palace have won just six games to sit second from bottom in the table, and the 3-0 defeat to Millwall proved to be the final straw for the Eagles board.

A statement on the club’s official website read: “George Burley has been relieved of his duties as First Team Manager of Crystal Palace FC.

“We would like to thank George for his dedication and hard work and share his regret that things didn't work out for him here.

“Dougie Freedman will take charge of the first team on a caretaker basis for the game against Preston.”
