Tottenham held off AC Milan to reach the quarter-finals of the Champions League with a goalless draw in the second leg.
Spurs held a 1-0 advantage heading into this clash at White Hart Lane and spent much of the game fighting a rearguard action as Milan attempted to avoid following compatriots Roma out of the competition.
Heurelho Gomes made a fine save to keep out Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s free-kick, and William Gallas then came to the goalkeeper’s rescue with a goal-line clearance to deny Robinho after Gomes had gone walkabouts.
Rafael van der Vaart hit the roof of the net with a free-kick at the other end, but Milan were soon on the offensive once more and Gomes was called into action after Ibrahimovic played in Pato.
Former Arsenal midfielder Mathieu Flamini rifled a shot agonisingly wide before Gomes needed two attempts to deal with a shot from Robinho, and Pato was then just off-target with an effort as the seconds ticked away.
And Robinho then lifted a late effort over the bar as Milan’s campaign came to a disappointing end, while the Tottenham supporters celebrated another historic night of European football.
