Real Madrid coach Jose Mourinho is hoping to avoid his former employers, Chelsea and Inter Milan, in the quarter-finals of this season’s Champions League.
Madrid ended a seven-year wait to reach the last eight by beating French side Lyon 3-0 on Wednesday night, wrapping up a 4-1 aggregate victory, and the Spanish giants have joined the likes of Barcelona and Manchester United in the pot for Friday’s draw.
However, it is a return to Stamford Bridge or the Giuseppe Meazza that Mourinho is keen to avoid.
The Portuguese said: “Any draw will be a serious challenge, but I do not want to play Inter or Chelsea, but we might have to.”
And Mourinho added: “We are Real Madrid, it is normal for us to qualify for the quarters.
“This was a victory against a very good team, I think we deserved it after a complete performance, we played to win and deserved to.”
