Hannover 96 defender Christian Schulz admits the “world has turned upside down” heading into today’s trip to Werder Bremen.
Die Roten were tipped to be involved in a battle against relegation this season but have silenced their critics by racking up 12 wins to sit fifth in the table, just five points off second-placed Bayer Leverkusen.
Meanwhile hosts Werder Bremen were expected to be competing for European football next season but have instead found themselves languishing in 15th place, just one point off the relegation zone.
And Schulz said: “If you look at the way both teams have played in recent years then yes, you have got to say that the world has turned upside down.
“But since (coach) Mirko Slomka took command here, we have rediscovered our belief in being able to beat big clubs.
“We have proven that too. To be in front of Werder now is great.”
Hannover 96 ran out 1-0 winners over Wolfsburg last time out, while Werder Bremen earned a 1-1 draw at high-flying Mainz.
