Bayern Munich are right to part company with manager Louis van Gaal, according to defender Philipp Lahm.
The Bundesliga club recently confirmed that van Gaal will leave at the end of a disappointing campaign that could see them fail to earn a place in next season’s Champions League.
And while Lahm admits the Dutchman is not the only one to blame for their failings, the Germany international believes Bayern’s board were right to turn to Jupp Heynckes for next season.
He told Bild: “The change of manager is definitely right but we have all made mistakes, me included.
“We have been too shaky at the back and not efficient enough in front of goal.
“This is the way things are at Bayern - if you are not successful, you have to face the consequences.”
And Lahm added: “I have a good feeling about Heynckes. He knows Bayern and all of the decision-makers very well and it is certainly going to work out with him.
“Bayern Munich and Jupp Heynckes - that sounds like a winning team.”
