Hamburg are looking to bounce back from their midweek derby defeat when they face Werder Bremen in the Bundesliga today.
Rothosen’s push for a Europa League place suffered a major setback in midweek when they were beaten 1-0 by local rivals St Pauli, with Gerald Asamoah netting the only goal of the game.
And chairman Bernd Hoffman has now called upon the players to show a more ruthless streak having seen them fail to take three points despite dominating the showdown with St Pauli.
Speaking ahead of the visit of Werder Bremen, Hoffman said: “Each of the players know that they have the opportunity to put a small plaster over a very big wound.
“I was incredibly angry with the result and the fact that we were unable to beat the clear number two in this city inside our own stadium despite our domination.”
While Hamburg were beaten on home turf by St Pauli, Werder Bremen battled to a 1-1 draw with Hannover 96.
