High-flying Hannover 96 head into today’s trip to Eintracht Frankfurt still reeling from the news coach Mirko Slomka has tendered his resignation.
Slomka, who has guided Die Roten to second in the Bundesliga table, has been locked in talks over a new contract for some time but, with the two parties yet to reach an agreement, he has now requested his current contract be terminated.
Hannover, however, have rejected his request and talks will continue next week, meaning Slomka does take charge of the game against Frankfurt.
And Slomka revealed: “We are not too far apart to be able to carry on working together beyond next summer.
“I expect the talks will progress over the coming weeks. All I am focusing on now is the Frankfurt game.”
Before the winter break Hannover 96 crashed to a 3-1 defeat at Nuremberg, while Frankfurt defeated leaders Borussia Dortmund 1-0 at home.
