Eintracht Frankfurt have sacked manager Michael Skibbe and immediately replaced him with Christoph Daum.
Die Adler are just three points clear of the Bundesliga’s relegation zone after ending a nine-match winless run with victory over St Pauli at the weekend.
But that win was not enough to keep Skibbe in his job despite the 45-year-old penning a contract extension at the start of this year.
A statement on the club’s official website confirmed: “The main reason for the separation was an in-depth consideration and intensive analysis of the negative sporting development of Eintracht Frankfurt in recent months.
“The board regrets this extraordinary step and would like to emphasise the previous success and positive results gained under Michael Skibbe.”
Former Bayer Leverkusen and Cologne coach Daum, 57, has agreed a deal until the end of the season but the Commerzbank-Arena outfit have already confirmed his reign will continue beyond the “stipulated time period”.
