Bayern Munich chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge believes the team have something to prove when they face Borussia Dortmund today.
Heading into this weekend’s fixtures, league leaders Dortmund are 10 points clear of second-placed Bayer Leverkusen, with Bayern a further three points behind.
But the mood coming out of the Munich camp this week has been one of extreme confidence that they can claim three points at the Allianz Arena this evening.
And Rummenigge believes the hosts can show they are better than third place by sending the Bundesliga table-toppers home empty-handed.
He said: “We have to show we may be third, but this will not be the case at the end of the season.
“We are now all looking forward to Dortmund – we will have to give everything.”
Bayern Munich will be full of confidence having beaten holders Inter Milan in the Champions League in midweek, while their last domestic result saw them clinch a 3-1 victory at Mainz. Borussia Dortmund, meanwhile, bounced back from a disappointing draw with Kaiserslautern to beat St Pauli, 2-0, last time out.
