Schalke caretaker manager Josef Eichkorn is hoping to hand over the reins to Ralf Rangnick with at least another point in the bag.
Rangnick will take charge of the Royal Blues on Monday after the Bundesliga club parted company with Felix Magath earlier this week.
And Eichkorn is hoping Rangnick’s reign will begin on the back of a positive result against Bayer Leverkusen today.
He said: “I have got to ensure that the team is focused on the Leverkusen game so that, if possible, we can get some points.”
And director of sport Horst Heldt added: “The players can be sure that Ralf Rangnick will be watching this game closely.
“Therefore, each individual player will have to do his best to convince the new coach of his qualities.”
While Schalke recorded a 2-1 victory against Eintracht Frankfurt last time out, Bayer Leverkusen edged Mainz 1-0. However, their most recent outing ended in a Europa League defeat to Villarreal.
