Newcastle manager Chris Hughton has rubbished suggestions he will make a bid for Bolton forward Johan Elmander in January.
Elmander, in the final year of his contract with Wanderers, has enjoyed a fine start to the Premier League season and boss Owen Coyle has already voiced his desire to hold on to the 29-year-old Swede.
Reports in Elmander’s home country have suggested Magpies manager Hughton is looking to pair the former Toulouse frontman with rising star Andy Carroll and is planning to make a move when the transfer window opens in a couple of months’ time.
But when asked about the rumours, Hughton insisted: “There’s absolutely nothing in that whatsoever.
“As always there will be speculation surrounding this club, but I can tell you that one is most definitely a non-starter.”
