Ian Holloway: Blackpool will lose stars

Football News Staff - 26 Oct 2010

Blackpool manager Ian Holloway expects to lose two of his star men before the start of next season.

Goalkeeper Matthew Gilks and midfielder David Vaughan have both impressed during the club’s first nine games of the Premier League campaign.

And with both men out of contract at the end of the season, Holloway believes the Seasiders will not be able to offer the same high salaries that other clubs could.

He told The Sun: “They’ve probably already played their way out of my team. With the wages we pay, there’s only so long I can hold them.

“They can go and earn £120,000 and not give us a thought ever again.”

Holloway has also revealed the club are planning to meet with Gilks and Vaughan to discuss their futures, which could mean the Seasiders are considering cashing in on the pair in January to avoid missing out on a fee.

He told the Daily Star: “The chairman has already told me he wants talks with David Vaughan and (Matthew) Gilks.”
