Blackpool midfielder Chris Basham is facing a lengthy spell on the sidelines with a broken leg.
The 22-year-old, who joined from Bolton prior to the transfer deadline, suffered the injury while playing for the reserve team.
And while insisting Basham could return before the season ends, manager Ian Holloway admitted he will be without the player for some time.
He said: “It is not good news for him but it is not career-threatening. It is another setback. He is a young lad I paid a lot of money for in the summer and I was working him in two or three different positions.
“But there is a chance he could be back before the end of the season.”
Meanwhile, Holloway remains keen to tie midfielder David Vaughan to a new contract and avoid losing him for nothing in the summer.
The Seasiders boss told the Blackpool Gazette: “(David) is an incredible player and a wonderful person, and I’m just very fortunate to have him at the club because he hardly ever does anything sub-standard.
“He has been manufactured by Dario Gradi at Crewe and I hope he will be with me for a long time.
“He is playing so well and I wish him well whatever happens. It is a joy to work with him.”
