Blackpool eye permanent Luke Varney deal

Football News Staff - 22 Nov 2010
Blackpool manager Ian Holloway has confirmed the club will look to wrap up the permanent signing of striker Luke Varney in January.

Varney joined the Seasiders on loan from Championship side Derby in the summer, and he has been a revelation in the Premier League with four goals already to his name.

And Holloway revealed the club has first option on the 28-year-old and can complete the deal for a bargain price of £250,000.

He said: “We are going to sign him in January. We have a massive clause in there.

“He can’t go anywhere else and we get him for £250,000. They can’t change that, there’s nothing they can do about it. Unlucky.”

And Varney has hinted he would be willing to take a pay cut in order to remain at Bloomfield Road.

The forward said: “I would be delighted if something could be done because I’ve never enjoyed my football so much. The togetherness here is nothing like I have ever seen before.

“Hopefully something can be sorted out in January or if not then at the end of the season. You can’t not lot in here because the gaffer gives you so much space to express yourself.”
