Ronaldinho chase not over, insists Blackburn boss

Football News Staff - 7 Jan 2011
Blackburn Rovers manager Steve Kean is refusing to give up on trying to sign AC Milan star Ronaldinho.

The 30-year-old Brazilian has reached an agreement with the Serie A giants that will allow him to leave the San Siro during the current transfer window.

Ronaldinho is expected to sign for a Brazilian club at some point in the next couple of weeks, with hometown club Gremio believed to be leading the chase, but Kean believes Rovers could still land the two-time World Footballer of the Year.

When asked if the pursuit of the Brazil international was over, Kean said: “No it's not over, as far as I'm aware that hasn't happened.

“It seems to have gone back on, and gone a little bit more positive in the last 24 hours rather than negative, which is encouraging.

“I'm trying to get the player to commit to come over and speak to us and then to deal with his club.

“We are trying to get a formula that first of all satisfies his current club and then see if the player is actually fully committed to coming here.”

However, Kean has admitted defeat in the race to sign former England captain David Beckham on loan, with the Los Angeles Galaxy star believed to be on the brink of joining Tottenham.

He added: “That one has gone quiet. I don't think he's going to be coming to the North West so that rules us out.”
