Phil Jones' knee surgery a success

Football News Staff - 21 Dec 2010
Blackburn Rovers midfielder Phil Jones has undergone successful surgery to repair torn cartilage in his knee.

Jones, an England U21 international, sustained the injury just 10 minutes after coming on as a substitute during the 1-1 draw with West Ham at the weekend, replacing an injured Chris Samba.

The 18-year-old fell awkwardly in a challenge with Hammers striker Carlton, tearing his lateral meniscus process, and is now facing a race against time to return before the end of the current Premier League season following Monday’s operation.

Club doctor told Rovers’ official website: “Phil Jones had keyhole surgery yesterday to repair the tear to his cartilage, the operation went successfully.

“The rest of the knee looks fine and he’ll now begin his rehab which should be three to four months.”
