Blackburn takeover almost complete

Football News Staff - 26 Oct 2010

Blackburn Rovers chairman John Williams has revealed the club’s possible takeover could be completed next month.

India-based Venkys, which has grown from a family-run business to a conglomerate that specialises in poultry farming and pharmaceuticals, have been in talks with both Rovers and Premier League officials over an attempted purchase of the Ewood Park outfit.

And Williams has revealed they could be in charge as early as next month.

He told the club’s official website: “A series of meetings, including discussions with the Premier League, have followed an extensive due diligence process.

“Both parties are hopeful that the transaction will be completed in November.”

Venkys’ chairperson Anuradha J. Desai added: “We expect to be the first Indian company to acquire a Premier League team and we are particularly delighted that the team is Blackburn Rovers, with whom we have many shared values and ambitions.”

Indian businessman Ahsan Ali Syed had also been in talks about taking over Blackburn, claiming he would attempt to sign David Beckham if successful, but his interest fell by the wayside when it was revealed he had left a trail of unpaid debt in the United Kingdom.
