Garry O'Connor hopes for new Birmingham deal

Football News Staff - 26 Oct 2010

Birmingham striker Garry O’Connor remains hopeful of securing a new contract with the Midlands club.

O’Connor was offered a six-month deal in the summer in a bid to allow him to prove his fitness following a long spell on the sidelines with a hip injury.

And having returned from a loan spell with Championship side Barnsley, the Scotland international looked sharp and impressed during the 2-0 win over Blackpool at the weekend.

Now he is hoping he can do enough to receive a new deal to remain at St Andrew’s.

He said: “Nothing is being said at the moment about a new contract. The gaffer has got faith in me. It is just about people upstairs at the club.

“I would love to stay at Birmingham. It’s a fantastic club and I’ve enjoyed my time here and hope it can continue.

“I’ve got to keep my head down and keep working hard. But if it doesn’t happen for me here, I can move on being happy with my form at the moment.”
