Alex McLeish pens three-year Birmingham deal

Football News Staff - 18 Sep 2010

Birmingham manager Alex McLeish has finally put pen-to-paper on a new three-year contract.

Former Rangers and Scotland boss McLeish, who moved to St Andrew’s in November 2007, guided Blues to a ninth-place finish last season, their highest league position in over 50 years.

The club were keen to reward the 51-year-old Scot for his performance and talks had been going on for some time, with speculation at one point suggesting he could leave Blues.

However, McLeish has finally agreed terms with the club and will now remain at St Andrew’s until the summer of 2013.

A statement on Blues’ official website read: “Club president Carson Yeung has rewarded that success with a new improved deal for McLeish, after giving the green light for him to bring in Ben Foster, Nikola Zigic, Enric Valles, Matt Derbyshire, Alexander Hleb, Martin Jiranek and Jean Beausejour in the August transfer window.”
