Agent: Birmingham want Juventus veteran Mauro Camoranesi

Football News Staff - 5 Aug 2010

Birmingham have made a surprise move for Juventus and Italy midfielder Mauro Camoranesi, according to the player’s agent.

Blues boss Alex McLeish has admitted his desire to add more quality to the squad ahead of the new season and is reportedly keen to add the 33-year-old to the fold.

Camoranesi is also attracting the interest of Spanish Primera Liga side Hercules but the Italian is not keen on a move to Italy, meaning a switch to Blues could well be on the horizon.

Agent Sergio Fortunato said: “There was an official contact with Birmingham. A FIFA agent gave me a letter from the English management.

“They made a proposal and I have discussed it with Juventus. Birmingham are a respectable team and the Premier League is a good league.

“With all due respect to the Spanish club, Mauro wants something more than a newly-promoted team.

“Mauro wants to play football at a good level for a couple of years. Then, possibly we’ll think about other solutions.”
