Aston Villa midfielder Nigel Reo-Coker has rejected the chance to represent African nation Sierra Leone.
Coach Christian Cole, who was recently snubbed by Barnet forward Steve Kabba, was keen to call up Reo-Coker, but the 26-year-old insists he is fully focused on trying to become a first-time regular for Villa.
And the former West Ham man, a former England U21 international, also admitted he has not given up hope of one day representing the Three Lions’ senior team.
Reo-Coker said: “I’m flattered by the invitation to play for Sierra Leone and I want to thank the SLFA as I consider it as a mark of respect.
“But I can’t play for Sierra Leone because at the moment my concentration is to win a regular place in my club, Aston Villa.
“Besides, I believe I still have the prospect to play for England as I’m still young to fight for a place.”
