New Aston Villa manager Gerard Houllier will finally take charge next week, the Midlands club have confirmed.
Former Liverpool boss Houllier was announced as Martin O’Neill’s successor last week, signing a three-year contract, but has since been negotiating a release from his role as technical director with the French Football Association.
The 63-year-old has now agreed a date with FFF officials, meaning his first official game as Villa chief will be next Tuesday night’s Carling Cup clash with Blackburn.
Kevin MacDonald will continue in his role as caretaker manager at Bolton this weekend, with his future at Villa Park still unknown.
