Aston Villa manager Gerard Houllier has ruled out making a January bid for Manchester United forward Michael Owen.
Injury-plagued Owen’s Old Trafford contract is due to expire at the end of the current Premier League campaign and speculation has suggested his days with United may be numbered.
The 30-year-old played under Houllier at Liverpool and the Frenchman has previously admitted he would have an interest in working with the former England man once again, leading to further speculation that a move to Villa Park could be on the cards
But when asked about a possible bid for Owen, Villa boss Houllier said: “No, no. In terms of some strikers Emile (Heskey) and John (Carew) will come back. There is no point.”
However, Houllier has not ruled out making changes to his young squad in January, adding “We definitely need to sign one or two players in January.”
