Aston Villa director General Charles C. Krulak has defended the expected appointment of Gerard Houllier as manager.
The former Liverpool boss, who guided the Reds to Uefa Cup/FA Cup/Carling Cup treble in 2001, is thought to have agreed a two-year deal to become Martin O’Neill’s successor at Villa Park.
Villa supporters are not impressed by the decision to hire Houllier, but Krulak believes the Frenchman should be shown respect.
“Whatever anyone thinks of him, he deserves respect from the fans of this club,” The Times claim Krulak posted on a Villa supporters messageboard.
“He has a fine record with multiple clubs and deserves better for the amount of effort he has put into his chosen career than to be ridiculed by AVFC.
“And that is just one person, who has been taken apart on the three sites I post on. We are bigger than that. As I have said many times, we can disagree all we want, but we should do it respectfully.
“It makes little sense to me to pick out one or two candidates and run threads on how much we don’t want then or how bad they would be for the club.
“Any manager worth his salt is going to do some due diligence on the club and that would probably include reading up on the fans and the type of support they might receive.”
