Aston Villa boss keen to keep Brad Friedel

Football News Staff - 29 Oct 2010
Aston Villa manager Gerard Houllier is keen to keep veteran goalkeeper Brad Friedel beyond this season.

The 39-year-old American, sold by Houllier during his time as Liverpool manager, has been in fine form for Villa this season and is on the verge of making his 100th appearance for the Midlands outfit.

And when quizzed about the possibility of offering Friedel about a contract extension, Houllier said: “I think it’s too early to speak about that, but definitely yes (to keeping Friedel).

“At the moment, he’s doing a good job, a very good job. He’s very professional.

“With a player after the age of 30, you need to sometimes take into consideration certain things.

“When you have the opportunity to rest them, do it. But he’s a good professional.

“He has always been like that. Everywhere he went I never heard anything against him in terms of dedication, commitment, preparation. The boys like him as well.”
